Clearing An Estate From Afar - a Client’s Experience

Estate clearing is a challenging task under any circumstances, but when you find yourself in a different state, or a different country, faced with the daunting task of managing a late parents’ estate, the emotional and logistical burden can feel overwhelming. That’s precisely the situation our client found herself in. We share how our estate clearing service helped navigate the process from interstate.

Our client, living in Canberra, was dealing with the aftermath of her mother’s passing. Managing her late mother's apartment in Sydney, from organizing belongings to determining what to do with them and how to physically distribute them, was a challenge she was dealing with by commuting on weekends. The commute between Canberra and Sydney was taking a toll. That’s when Jo decided it was time to change her approach and enlist professional help to manage the estate. This decision marked as turning point in the entire process.

Despite the geographical distance, empowering Jo to make the final call on decisions as well as keeping her well informed with regular updates, was a priority for us. In her words, "[Antonia's] approach and style is warm and compassionate, with excellent communication (phone calls, emails, texts, including photos) – she was a delight to deal with and always kept us up-to-date on status and the many moving parts.”

One of the key aspects of our service is maximizing the value of each estate. In this case, we took all items of potential value to auction, ensuring the highest possible returns. We donated the remaining items to local charities, making a positive impact on the communities the family felt would be meaningful to their late mother.

Our service not only managed the practical aspects of the estate clearing but also relieved the day-to-day stress that Jo had been dealing with. In her own words, "[Antonia] effectively managed the finalization of our mum’s place end-to-end in a seamless and speedy manner, covering the ins and outs and countless liaisons with different suppliers on our behalf (retirement village, auction house, several charities, and more). I cannot recommend Antonia highly enough; I would hire her services again without question! She gave our family peace of mind and heart at a sad time of loss and grief, while also showing dignity and respect to our precious mom’s belongings through finding creative solutions to benefit many special charities along the way.”

Jo’s experience reminds us that estate clearing isn’t just about handling possessions. It’s about providing support, relief, and maximizing the value of what’s left behind. Our commitment to our clients, whether they live near or far, is what sets us apart.

If you find yourself in a similar situation, remember that we are here to provide the same level of care and dedication that made this story possible.
